The neighborhood around the University of Denver is a mix of brick bungalows, frame-and-siding, new contemporary townhomes and duplexes, old and new apartment buildings, and recent condo-projects. You’ll find just about everything in this neighborhood, and it changes from block-to-block.
Many of the older homes are rented out to students as land-holders wait for further land appreciation. Along University you’ll find a handful of recent successful condo projects and of course retail and restaurants that cater to the University faculty and students.
Bisecting the school is Evans, which provides more retail and restaurants. The light rail skirts along the highway and you’ll find easy access to downtown or the tech center from the station near the University and Buchtel intersection. Crossing over the highway leads you to Wash Park.
The University offers the community arguably Denver’s best fitness center, the Ritchie Center, as well as continuing education courses and great concerts and performances at the Newman Center.
Historic DU Neighborhood Highlights:
- Ritchie Center – One of Colorado’s only two Olympic size pools, two ice-rinks, state of the art fitness center. Memberships are available to the greater community
- The Newman Center — hosts more than 400 performances each year, serving both the DU campus and community
- DU — emphasizes academic excellence, experiential learning, an active lifestyle
